If you could find out one single fact about every person you met, what fact would you want to know, and why?

I am a private man and I assure you that there are many people who share that same feeling of wanting to keep their inner thoughts and feelings silent. However, I shall indulge you in the hopes that you may one day be done with me and leave me alone. Of course, you will most likely never do such a thing, unless you are killed, and I am not a murderer, so I will simply have to put up with your incessant and annoying questioning. Pity that you couldn’t get a brain; otherwise this venture might almost be worthwhile.

I have met many people in my lifetime and a large percentage of those people are people I have come into contact with as a result of my work. Murderers, victims, families, co-workers, they far outnumber my close personal contacts, which is no surprise. I am dedicated, and I am not lazy, although I do enjoy my private life, I do not spend all of it fraternizing with friends. That would be a waste of time.

If I could find out one fact though, I would find not their greatest weakness, or their bank balance, but what single thing possesses them to kill. And by kill I mean killing with intention, not purely accidental such as stepping on a snail in the night. Is it rage? Or does the killing occur as a result of the trouble a certain thing or person has caused another? Most of my life has been dedicated to finding killers and getting them punished. I find answers and solve cases, to know what makes someone kill would be a nice thing to know. Fuck it; it would make my job a hell of a lot easier.
