Blue: Write a ficlet inspired by the word blue. It might be a color, it might be a mood, it might be the name of your favorite hound dog from when you were 10. Whatever! Use your imagination.
Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
Something blue, he needed something blue.
Something old, his father’s bowtie, something new, a new suit, something borrowed, cufflinks from his aunt, something blue, he had nothing.
A blue pen wouldn’t cut it, Michelle wouldn’t like that.
He knew what.
Hands easily manipulated the lid of the jewellery box on the dresser and Ecklie withdrew a fine silver chain from within its depths. Hanging off the chain was a small silver cross inset with a tiny Aquamarine stone. As the man unclipped the chain and fastened it around his neck, he smiled at the dresser’s mirror. It was a warm smile, happy and hopeful. Maybe not secure and sure, but it tried hard enough.
He tucked the cross under his shirt and felt the cold touch of the metal against his chest, briefly, before the warmth swelling inside his person overtook it.
